According to this article most of the traffic on the internet is drawn from areas of the web owned by just four companies; AOL Time Warner, Microsoft, Yahoo and Napster. This is down from 11 companies just two years ago. 60% of online time is controlled by only 14 companies, a breathtaking plunge from 110 companies in 1999.

That’s “an incontrovertible trend towards online media consolidation,” the authors of the report wrote.
