so, when you get your money late this summer or fall, since you disagree so strongly with the tax cuts, let me ask you this.
will you hand over your $300 or $600 to someone of "reduced financial circumstances"?
or will you spend it?
i changed poor unfortunates to reduced...and meant nothing ugly by my choice of words.

We give far more than that yearly to people who have special needs, but we don't refer to them as "poor unfortunates."
I am a poor unfortunate with reduced financial circumstances so I will be returning my refund to the IRS in payment of estimated taxes for the year 2001.
If anyone would like to forward money to me, it will be much appreciated.

Well ok, IF they really are coming (which I believe they are) but damn, yeah, just they should let you know, at least, about when.
Could you imagine people knowing those are coming, and well, I could think the worst....
you've all heard the stories of older people and their SS checks........
they could at least do a direct deposit or something?

omg, LOL, I guess I am getting something back! I just talked to my brother, and he said EVERYONE is getting those checks....no matter how much income you have, boy did I misunderstand this.... I was thinking ......... sheeeeeeeeeet never mind!
duh LOL!
Anyway, he had a freind over, and he said, its the last 2 digits on your social security number determines WHEN you are getting it back, I told him mine was 69 ,
and he said that would be Sept.
there is some website that will tell you all this....

Well, all I know is that I heard some guy on CNN talking about it, and he said not everyone would be getting one - that it depended on how much you paid in. He also stressed the fact that single people would get up to 300 and familes up to600. I didn't make that much last year, so obviously didn't pay in much in taxes, so I still don't think I'll get anything. I hope I'm wrong. (mine ends in 16)

Heres what I copied from the archives of the Seattle Times
When you'll get your refund
With President Bush signing the tax-cut bill yesterday, taxpayers are eligible for rebate checks of up to $600. The checks will be mailed based on the last two digits of taxpayers' Social Security numbers. For married couples filing jointly, the first Social Security number on the return will be used. The chart shows the week during which the checks will arrive.
SSN end Week check arrives SSN end Week check arrives
00-09 July 23 50-59 Aug. 27
10-19 July 30 60-69 Sept. 3
20-29 Aug. 6 70-79 Sept. 10
30-39 Aug. 13 80-89 Sept. 17
40-49 Aug. 20 90-99 Sept. 24
Source: Internal Revenue Service
I read the damn thing, and I don't know if EVERYONE gets it now.... I don't know, need to talk to someone else.....
That 'chart, is supposed to have a line down it, ex; the 00-09 is the last 2 digits , next to it is the week you should get it.

Another 34 million taxpayers won't get a rebate check at all because they paid Social Security payroll tax but not income tax in 2000, the liberal Citizens for Tax Justice estimates.
"The rebates have been carefully designed to give as little as possible to those who need it most," Bob McIntyre, the group's director, says. Or, as he puts, it, "The check isn't in the mail" for 51 million Americans.

Maybe I am missing something, but single persons or married couples without children seem to be left out of this tax plan.

Since this is found money that won't make too much of a difference for some, a few of my friends and I are donating ours to the DNC.

But it will make a difference for those who spend it. On the economy, so Bush ain't all that dumb.
Basic economics 101: Every $1. spent by a consumer, has a multiplier effect of 6-7 meaning every time you spend $1.00 its like putting $7.00 into the overall GNP.
(It goes to the retailer, then the supplier, then mfg, and worker thereof, who pay taxes on this, etc etc, down the chain, so to speak)

That's interesting - the republicans give you the tax cut, so you give it to the democrats.
Edited to add - the government gives you money back in order to help boost a lagging economy, and you take that money right back out of the economy and give it back to the government. I hope you realise you are doing the rest of your fellow Americans a great disservice.

Mornin' Everyone -
Here's a good site that might answer some questions. If you click on the URL, then choose 'Advance Payment Amount' it will tell you exactly what you can expect to receive. (This year, and possibly next year too - according to your circumstances.) That is, if you have your copies of last years IRS forms handy.

However, if you don't need it for 'consumable' goods, I think it a great idea to donate it to whatever orginization you so choose, the DNC, GOP, Greenpeace, churches, missons, homeless shelters etc.
kerryann-I think I read, yes, single or married filing jointly will receive this check.
I was just curious,as to whether you make over a certain income, would you get it. Of which I still do not know the answer to.
