Over on EO there is a thread titled " World's Worst payers".

2 or 3 times I've glanced and thought it said "Prayers" and thought it would be funny.

I thought the RT crowd could have fun with this.

My brother got sent to his room one Thanksgiving at dinner for saying this blessing:
"Oh wow good chow Yeaaaaa God"

I thought it was rather funny but my Mom had no sense of humor when it came to the almighty.

I nominate Bill Buckner as one of the world's worst players. After that error in the last game of the World Series all those years ago ... I still haven't forgiven him.

I thought you meant prayers as in "people who say prayers." I was going to nominate one of my former ministers. He could go on and on and on in the pastoral prayer. I think even God must have nodded off on occasion.

There's the bread
And there's the meat
Let's thank God
That it's time to eat.

I've always thought that the absolute worst prayer is the one traditionally (at least when I was coming up) taught to young kids:

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take

Now *there's* a cheery little thought to send kids to bed with! Just warms the cockles of your heart & makes you feel safe & snug and ready for dreamland. No wonder so many kids fight going to bed at night...

My five year old daughter has decided in the last 2 months or so that we need to say a blessing before our supper each night (we are no religious and I don't know where she picked up the idea). The entire prayer consists of all three of us bowing our heads, putting our hands together (palm to palm NOT folded!) and then she says Jesus, Amen, and then claps one time.

BTW I tought the original thread said Prayers at first glance too.

When I was 19, I (a Lutheran) married into a LARGE Catholic family. At my first dinner with them, just as we sat down to eat, this is what they said (I think): Blessusolordandthesethygiftswhichwereceivethroughthygreatmercyinthenameofthefatherandthesonandtheholyghostamem.

This prayer was preceded by the sign the of cross, and ended with the sign of the cross, which was my only clue that it was a prayer. The prayer was recited at the speed of light, and took maybe five seconds. When they got done, I looked at everyone and said "What did you say?". They all looked at me and laughed, as if to say "Typical Lutheran".
