I've gleaned from a Bravenet Forum newsgroup that yet another scam has been orchestrated through Yahoo and PayPal for refurbished notebook computers. The seller in question, presumably credit card verified by Yahoo, although the account may have been in place prior to the requirement, and verified by PayPal, posted nine dutch auctions that ended October 3-7.
These auctions elicited 112 bids totaling $38,175.
When buyers did not receive their notebook computers, they began making calls to PayPal about the refunds to which they are entitled under PayPal's buyer protection guarantee. They were told that claims could be made after thirty days, but before sixty days. And to wait because the seller just might be slow in shipping!
PayPal, however, has already "restricted" the account; according to reports Hotmail has also closed the e-mail account.
Seller currently has a -53 feedback rating.
The upshot of all this, maybe, is that all the "extra" fees being charged are an effort to transfer their risk onto other accountholders. You know, a dime here and a dime there, along with PayPal's no refunds on fees policy.
