Since I can no longer get checks sent to my PO Box without giving PayPal my bank account number (which I really don't want to do), I need to close my account and draw out my money. I see nothing on their website about how to close an account. Any suggestions?

LOL - I had the same problem finding it myself. They sorta hide it. You can access it from your Profile page (I think that's what it's called).

I tried going to the Profile section and choosing close account. It just becomes one big vicious circle and then tells me I cannot close my account because they cannot mail my check to a PO Box!! I need to close the account before any more money gets put into it that I can't draw out.

Hi paintpower
Sorry I can't help you close your account, but if you don't want any more money deposited into it, remove your current e-mail address and substitute one your customers don't know. If you don't already have a spare e-mail account, set up a hotmail or yahoo address.
Good luck!

Another case of PayPal changing the rules midstream. PayPal didn't have this requirement when you opened your account, and to refuse to allow you to close your account and send a check is in violation of the TOS that you agreed to when you signed up.
They have the right to change their TOS, but they CANNOT prevent you from closing your account if you don't agree to the changes. If PayPal persists in this, they are facing the possibility of a class-action lawsuit.

I have had 2 emails from PayPal today plus personally talked to customer service reps twice. No one has been able to solve the problem of how I can close my account. They keep asking me to fax info to this number and then to that number (all of which are toll calls). At this rate they might as well just keep the money in my account cause the phone bills to fax all this junk will be more than what is left in the account. Personally I think they are practicing discrimination against people who get their mail at PO Boxes. Class action anyone??

Have a friend with a PayPal account that is holding onto it for awhile longer? Ask if they'd be willing to an exchange of your balance-on-hand for cash. Then close your account.

Since PayPal appears to have problems in account management, a certified letter to PayPal's corporate office instructing that your account be closed should be sufficient.

I have not been able to close my account even tho it has had a zero balance for months. I did remove all credit info before I requested my account to be closed. Now PayPal won't close the account unless I send new credit information!
The nearest thing to closing your account:
Remove both your credit card and bank account numbers with PayPal. In order to remove your primary email address add one
that you use for junk mail such as Yahoo. Once the new address is confirmed you can make that your primary email and delete any others.
Of course if a customer remembers your old email address they can still send you money thru PayPal.
