just upgraded to 5.51 and my system crashes just about everytime I use sales manager. any advice.

That is odd, the program should not be crashing your online Sales Manager. Try uninstalling/reinstalling Pro. Also, clear your browser cache and cookies and restart your computer. If the problem continues, please let us know what the error message says.

If I try to create a new listing with 5.51 my system crashes and I have to reboot.

Please uninstall SM Pro (using the Add/Remove Programs Wizard in Control Panel), then install it again.
You may use the install kit that you used before if it is still on your system, or you can download the current install kit (v5.5.2) from:
http://www.vendio.com/my/client/
Please be sure to select "save to disk" when downloading. Before you begin the install process, please be sure to close any applications that might be running on your system.
If this does not fix the problem:
1. Please go to the Windows Update site (click Tools > Windows Update in the Internet Explorer menu). Install the critical updates and Service Packs the site recommends, especially those for Windows and Internet Explorer.
