Help, I don't know what to do!

On June 22, I received an email from someone who had gotten my email address from one of my eBay auctions.

i was wondering if you would help me out by me sending you $240 via paypal and then you can send me $220 via fatshoe. the reason i ask this is because my family is going to universal studios and would like to have money to spend. so can you help me?<<

I thought I could make some quick cash, right? So I said I'd help him out.

I replied.

This isn't really related to eBay, but I'd be glad to help you. I will need your Fatshoe email address.<<

He replied.

>>my fatshoe e-mail is [email protected] what is your paypal e-mail?<<

I was then sent an email confirmation from PayPal that "Larry Shultz" had sent me $240. I confirmed the payment. The money was in my account.

I then sent him $220 via Fatshoe using my PayPal debit card. I thought the deal was over, but today my PayPal debit card was denied when I tried to use it to pay for shipping stuff at the post office. When I return home, I check my PayPal account to see what's up because I thought they had frozen my account. Worse.

The payment from Larry Shultz in the total of $240 is shown under status as "Reversed." How can this be?! I thought I had confirmed the payment!

There is a new activity in my account summary.

>>Type: Transfer | To/From: From | Name/Email: Larry Shultz | Amount ($):-234.42| Date: Jun 25, 2001 | Status: Pending<<

This guy is a CON! Can anyone give me advice on what to do? I've never had a problem with PayPal before. My eBay user ID is passwird if that helps any.

That's what a con artist depends on.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like the person must have used a stolen or unauthorized credit card or account to pay you, at least that's my guess.

You've made a mistake that can't be undone.
