Howdy, I opened a PayPal account this past Saturday and on Tuesday I learned that someone had used my credit card in an attempt to wire money to Russia!!! This card had not been used in approximately 6 months and had only been used at two other vendors (amazon.com and kagi.com). Is it a total coincidence that within 3 days of signing up at PayPal this card and my address & phone info were used in a fraud attempt? Luckily Western Union called me and let me know what was going on. I can't specifically blame PayPal, but it sure looks fishy..

kgantz,
In regard to the question that you asked "Is credit card information safe with PayPal?" Up until August 28th, PayPal had both my credit card and banking information. After six unauthorized ACH debit withdrawal attempts by PayPal on August 23rd, PayPal has neither my credit card or bank information.

paypaldamon,
Like I stated above "six unauthorized ACH debit withdrawal attempts by PayPal" on August 23rd. I'll repeat--unauthorized--
I did not "utilize".
Now that I have your attention, please tell me why I did not receive email notices from PayPal on the 23rd when these withdrawals were processed by PayPal.

paypaldamon,
YOU DEAL WITH "HUNDREDS OF CASES A DAY"
Yes I have contacted you before and your advice was that the fraud team needs to receive the requested documentation. Requested information sent to PayPal on September 1, 2001. PayPal received requested information on September 5, 2001.
In the mean time, I am still waiting for a promised call back from the fraud dept. I was told this on August 28th.
If you could, please explain why I did not receive any email notices from PayPal on the 23rd when these six unauthorized withdrawals were processed by PayPal.

Hi bburd51,
I can't review what has happened without the account information. I can't bring additional attention to your case (the callback) without it. I can't see what notifications were/were not sent.
As you can see, I can't really give guidance/advice without looking at it. I would need the email address to look at your account.

I will email you my email address, I do not wish to put it here for all to see.
On second thought, I have already written you twice and received two generic responses. My local police are dealing with the fraud. PayPal should have received a subpoena that will aid the police in this fraud investigation. I do plan on telling my story here on this message board. I am waiting for the conclusion of PayPal's investigation.
