Hi all,

I just wanted to advise of a change in credit card receiving limits.

Notice Date: October 11, 2001
Effective Date: November 6, 2001
To reduce the costs associated with credit card processing, the ability to receive credit card funded payments will become a feature reserved for Premier and Business accounts. Personal Accounts that receive credit card funded payments after 11/06/2001 may accept the payment by upgrading to a Premier or Business account, or they will have to deny the payment. Personal accounts will continue to be able to receive non-credit card funded payments for free. Once upgraded, Premier and Business Accounts may receive unlimited credit card funded payments.

will there be a way to deny the payment, cuz I thought that if you hit the $100 limit you couldn't do anything unless you upgraded. I didn't know you could just deny the payment and carry on like normal.

Hi WorkerBee1,

The transaction stays "pending" until they choose to accept or deny the payment.

Your new account signup page doesn't indicate that this change is going to be taking effect soon.

This offer:

Personal accounts are for individual use only and may only receive $100 per month in credit card payments.

might be a litle misleading to someone unfamiliar with your services, and I'm sure you wouldn't want that.

Since 80 percent of PayPal's accounts are "personal" I would say this is a rather huge change.

Thanks---I will see if I can get the content changed on the web site.

How's this for an announcement:

Paypal now protects personal account holders from charge backs!

1) There is no seller protection to personal accounts paid by a credit card.
2) There is NO seller protection on claims of merchandise quality when the buyer uses a credit card, even if the seller's account is business or premiere.
3) Scammers have learned about these loopholes and have discovered a new meaning of "fast, secure and FREE."
4) A large percentage of Paypal users have personal accounts.

Therefore, by restricting their ability to accept credit card payments, Paypal is protecting many of their users from false charge backs.

That kind of protection ranks right up there with send non swimmers to the desert so they don't drown.

I think this change is really a shame. Slowly but surely Paypal has continued to scale back its services. Next they will start charging a transaction fee for sending money from one's checking account. Fortunately yahoo's paydirect still accepts credit card payments of up to $1000 per month without fees. I am not sure there is much that differentiates this service from the others now.

My account is mucked up right now, I was told that it should be working fine (If it was, I wouldn't have complained) and they want to charge me more fees? Please, when you get it working right, THEN talk to me about MORE fees.

Credit Card payments are free through Yahoo PayDirect!

Hi cin131,

I am working with the representative that assisted you to see if we can find the issue.

Hi cin131,

The limit has been reset, but the old payments are still holding from the original date. The only way to fix it? Deny the payments, then have the buyer re-send the payments---this should correct the problem.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this caused.

So basically now you can't place a PP logo in your auctions if you have a personal account. Doesn't affect me but I know allot of people who will be dropping PP as an accepted form of payment since they sell only a dozen or so items a month. That's a real shame.

Thanks---I will see if I can get the content changed on the web site.

It is now October 26, and the signup page on PayPal's website says:

Which account type is right for you?

Personal accounts are for individual use only and may only receive $100 per month in credit card payments.

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/personal_vs_business-outside

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems a bit misleading to be telling prospective customers that they can accept credit card payments a little more than a week before that feature will be discontinued.

edited... spelling

Hi mrpotatohead,

As I did mention, the information was forwarded off to our marketing/content teams.

Actually, I don't see it as any more misleading than "Get $5 for signing up!" Afterall, you don't see them saying "Get $5 for signing up (AND doing the following 12 things.) So why would you expect to see them say "Personal accounts...may only receive $100 per month in credit card payments (for the next ten days, then we're changing it.)

Edited for spelling.

I never said you didn't.

What I am saying is that any company advertising features (which they know are being discontinued) of their service to prospective customers without clearly telling them about that fact is doing a disservice to those prospective customers.

Put in fewer words, I am saying PayPal is misleading people.

If it were my company, I would feel obligated to make sure that current information was readily available on the webpage provided which purports to answer the question:

Which account type is right for you?

but as long as PayPal is satisfied with the way they're handling things, well... I suppose that's all that matters. If new customers can't figure it out, too bad, I guess.
