Damon,

Hello, Sorry to complain--I have been a Paypal member for the last 1 1/2 years, and this is my first complaint. I withdrew a check from Paypal on November 5, and I still have not received it in the mail. I figured by now it should have been here, I have never had to wait more than 15 days for a check, and I do withdrawals about every 4 days so these checks are starting to overlap.

If you need the Paypal transaction number to investigate, please let me know and I will send it to you. I tried emailing Paypal at your website, but I did that 6 days ago 2 times and still no response, so I thought I would try you. Thanks ---Sam ([email protected])

Damon,

Hi, thanks for your assistance--someone from Paypal emailed me today and was notified that I now have the option of having Paypal do a stop payment on the check that is missing and having the funds reversed back into my account to be withdrawn a second time.

I was wondering though---I usually get about 3 checks per week from Paypal, and I am 99.9% sure that this check never arrived. BUT: I can't say for absolute 100% sure that the check didn't arrive because I can't find my bank deposit slips for this time period----what happens if the check actually did arrive and I cashed it without crossing it off my receivables list, and then it gets stopped somewhere in midstream of the banking process?

Is there any way for Paypal to check and see if the check has been cashed and cleared the bank, and if so, by whom? Thanks for your help, never had to do this before. ----Sam

Hi,

They did issue a stop payment on the item, so I am going to assume that it wasn't cashed.

Hi,

Thanks for the info---that is interesting to find out that they have now done a stop-payment, because I got an email from Paypal this morning claiming that the check had been cashed. The problem, however, was that the date that they claimed the check had been cashed could not have possibly been correct---they claimed the check was cashed on a date that was prior to my withdrawal date.

So, I don't know what is going on, I guess I will just keep pressing on, and if there is any other info you can give me or anything else I can try, please let me know, I would like to have this resolved as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hi,

They will, more than likely, re-issue the check once they resolve the date cashed issue. I do know that a representative was working on the issue.

I am a little curious...why do you do check withdrawals instead of bank withdrawals? The process is much faster and doesn't run into issues like lost in the mail, etc.

Hello,

Well, I talked to my rep at Paypal again today, and she says that apparently the check was cashed, and they are going to send my a copy of the check and my sig. for me to verify (will take up to 60 days I guess). I don't know how I could have cashed it without crossing it off my list, but maybe I did? I am really curious to make sure it's my sig. on the check.

Anyway, the reason I don't do direct deposit is because (hate to say it), I just don't feel comfortable giving Paypal direct access to my bank account and having the possibility of someone defrauding me by doing a payment reversal and giving Paypal the option of diving into my checking account to recover the funds. I know, I know, I'm paranoid, but I've just heard too many horror stories. If I'm missing the point and you can absolutely assure me that Paypal has no authority whatsoever to do that, I might still consider verifying my account, but at this point I will probably keep things the way they are.

Thanks for your help, if there is any other info that becomes available to you concerning this check issue, please let me know. ----Sam

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know that they are working the check issue with you.

As it relates to these comments--

Anyway, the reason I don't do direct deposit is because (hate to say it), I just don't feel comfortable giving Paypal direct access to my bank account and having the possibility of someone defrauding me by doing a payment reversal and giving Paypal the option of diving into my checking account to recover the funds. Recovery for chargebacks through a bank account only happens for users that signed up for the service after October 11,2001. Verifying, per our terms of use, does not give us unilateral access to your bank account. Transactions against a bank account, save chargeback recovery mentioned above, are customer-driven.

Electronic transfers are much quicker, and much less prone to outside delays (lost in mail, etc).

The good thing about a check is once it's cleared, its cleared, theres no going back. With direct deposit, PayPal can reverse transactions. Even though their terms of service says that they won't unless your account was registered after Oct 11, 2001, and for items not covered by the seller protection policy, I've read many posts awhile back which said that PayPal reversed direct deposits awhile after they were deposited, and something hints to me that these posters are not all lying.<br />

Hi,

I've seen one or two posts by an actual individual about this happening. One was a clerical error, the other was a system glitch. Accounts are not accessed without the permission of the user (per our terms of use)
