"From 1896-1898, 100,000 men and women rushed to the Klondike gold fields, but only 50,000 made it to Dawson. The list of the required provisions and clothing needed by each person weighed about 2,000 pounds. From Skagway over Chikoot Pass to Lake Bennett took about 30 days. During summer months it was a two-week voyage from Lake Bennett to Dawson on the Yukon River in boats, canoes, skiffs, kayaks and rafts. The Yukon River was not passable during winter months."
