DESCRIPTION: One of the
oldest, time-proven, and most reliable remedies for chronic constipation.
It is not habit-forming. It is a good intestinal tonic. An
excellent remedy for gallstones and increases the secretion of bile.
Good for liver complaints; especially an enlarged liver. Mix four
tsp. in a quart of boiling water, let steep for one hour, and drink
one or two cupfuls a day one hour before meals or on an empty stomach.
It is well sometimes to drink a cupful on retiring. Cascara sagrada
is a wonderful remedy.
Among the Indians
it was known as "sacred bark." It was called sacred by them because
of the excellent results they obtained from its use. The writer (Jethro
Kloss) has used this remedy for over thirty years, with gratifying results.
Cascara Sagrada is known as “Doans Pills”. It mainly is used for
colon related problems. It stimulates secretions of the liver, pancreas,
and stomach when taken internally. Use in small but frequent doses.
In chronic constipation, gradually decrease the dose to stimulate the peristaltic
action of the colon. It should be taken on an empty stomach.
As it restores the tone of the bowel, it produces a permanent beneficial
effect. It is good taken upon retiring as it helps to relax and soothe
the system.
