21 Original Rowlandson Hand Colored Aquatints from The Tours of Dr Syntax Offered for sale is a collection of 21 hand colored aquatints by Thomas Rowlandson from the Tours of Dr. Syntax. The Tours of Dr. Syntax were published many times over a period of about 80 years. Due to the nature of aquatint etchings, the plates were worn down over the years. Thus, the earlier prints, with much more detail and finer hand-coloring are generally more sought after. Our collection has etchings from the earlier editions as well as the later. Generally, the earlier edition prints will be more valuable than the later prints with less detail and more garish coloring. The sheet size of most the etchings is approximately 5.5 x 9 inches, though this does vary by edition. Thomas Rowlandson was a leading watercolorist, illustrator and carcicaturist from a golden age for carcicaturists. He was one of the major caricaturists to become an extensive book illustrator, particularly in his work for Ackermann from 1798, in The Tours of Dr. Syntax, and The Microcosm of London in 1808. USPS First Class Mail for small packages that weigh less than 12 oz. USPS Priority Mail for lightweight orders that fit in a box 12" square and under. USPS Parcel post or UPS Ground for heaver and larger items that weigh more than a pound or fit in a box 14" square and over. Paintings, prints and other large pieces are shipped using the best carrier on a case by case basis. We will always combine shipping wherever possible.
