Large Antique Real Ironstone Japan Basket 17 Inch Polychrome Platter 1840
Very fine antique Staffordshire pottery platter in the pattern called "Japan Basket" dating to circa 1830.This is an interesting version where the basket holds a trelise. In the years after Miles Mason patented his sturdy ironstone decorated in Japanese inspired designs, many Staffordshire firms copied him, using similar marks but without the word "Patent". This is a fine early piece, decorated in transfer, then hand colored in enamels. It is marked with a printed crown mark and the words "Real Ironstone China" as well as a hand painted "149" pattern number. I'm not sure which Staffordshire maker made this, very possibly Hicks & Meigh, a very large workship that produced a great deal of fine hand painted ironstone during the 1820s and 1830s.
The platter is 16 7/8 inches long by 13 5/8 inches wide. It weighs 5 lbs 12 oz (shipping weight 7 lb).
The platter is in very good to excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. No crazing, minor utensil wear in the central section.

Our US shipping policy goes like this:
USPS First Class Mail for small packages that weigh less than 12 oz.
USPS Priority Mail for lightweight orders that fit in a box 12" square and under.
USPS Parcel post or UPS Ground for heaver and larger items that weigh more than a pound or fit in a box 14" square and over.
Paintings, prints and other large pieces are shipped using the best carrier on a case by case basis.
We will always combine shipping wherever possible.
