The MPC TransPort T2300 is a sleek thin-and-light system that offers a number of amenities for professional users without slacking in the multimedia department.  This update of the T2200 offers increased performance, improved graphics, and maintains what made the original appealing in the first place: an integrated biometric fingerprint scanner.  At $2,410, the T2300 is not cheap, but it's worth it for those that need serious performance and data protection.

The lid of this system is made of dull aluminum, but once it's opened up, the first thing you'll notice is that the keyboard area is entirely blue.  The effort to try something different is appreciated, but it's a jarring sight.  Follow-up systems generally shrink down a bit, but the T2300 is actually slightly larger than its predecessor.

The keyboard itself is solid and comfortable to type on.
MPC packs plenty of features into the T2300, including dedicated Web, e-mail, and My Documents buttons above the keyboard, along with one that powers the Wi-Fi connection.  The 3-in-1 memory card reader comes in handy for digital photographers.  The most outstanding feature is the biometric fingerprint reader, which stores all of your passwords to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your system (this can be used to protect specific files or applications).

MPC has doubled the number of USB 2.0 ports to four, and smartly tried to spread them out a bit-one each on the left and right side, and two on the back. Inclusion of FireWire and a multi-layer DVD burner is key for those who need to edit or create videos.  The system is compatible with the same port replicator as the previous four generations.

The TransPort T2300 is certainly no slouch in the productivity department.  The 1.86-GHz Pentium M processor helped this system notch an above average MobileMark score of 210, and it was able to breeze through audio conversion, photo editing, and burning discs, despite having only 512MB of RAM (expandable up to 2GB). Programs loaded quickly, due in no small part to the snappy 5,400-rpm hard drive. 

The 14.1-inch XGA+ display is clear and bright. It's as good for DVD playback as it is for viewing spreadsheets. Thanks to the ATI X600 graphics, complete with 128MB of dedicated video memory, we enjoyed very fluid motion watching our Spiderman 2 DVD. The sound from the two speakers located under the front of the system was decent. With a solid score of 3,269 in 3DMark03, those who like gaming need not shy away from this notebook.

The included 802.11a/b/g wireless did not disappoint.  At 5 feet from our access point the T2300 registered 17.6 Mbps, and stayed strong at 50 feet with 13.9 Mbps of throughput.

The TransPort T2300 comes loaded with InterVideo WinDVD 5, Nero Express 6.0, Pinnacle Studio 9, and avg AntiVirus software.

Overall, the MPC TransPort T2300 is a strong candidate for security-conscious power users that want to be mobile. It crams a lot of features into a portable body and doesn't leave you out in the cold in terms of performance. For those willing to sacrifice some battery life, it's a good choice.
