The Bible tells us that Job was the greatest in the East. Nevertheless, it was permitted that he would suffer certain trials that were, from God's point of view, intended to prove to Satan and to Job that there was "none like him in the earth."
It was necessary that something concealed in Job be brought to the surface and revealed. The tests he endured included attacks on his finances from foreign invaders; the death of his children by means of a whirlwind.
