Modica Dutch Gouda Holland Pottery ashtray Flower decor

 

Gouda is probably, after Delft, the most well known town in Holland where they make pottery.

 

There where a lot of excellent pottery makers in Gouda over the last 4 centuries. Some of the most well known are;

Porseleine Fles, Royal Goedewagen, Flora and Zenith.

 

This Ashtray was also made in Gouda.

The Modica company was founded in 1969 by the brothers Frans and Peter Eikenboom.

They were the sons of P.A. Eikenboom the founder of Plateelbakkerij Flora.

 

They imitated the patterns, styles and designs of other factories - mainly PZH and Regina.

The company closed in 1990. The "F" and "P" are the first letters of the brothers names - Frans and Peter.

This piece dates from 1960.
