delivered at the residence of the purchaser, if within the bounds of the
Corporation of the Village of Niagara Falls. (signed) C. H. Witmer & Son. Niagara
Falls, March 14, 1859. Broadside. 8 x 5-5/8 inches. Age toned, paper loss,
damp-stained. Overall very good condition.
- - - Historical Note: “C.H. Witmer died on
Sept. 17, 1859, while he was making some minor repairs in the wheelhouse with
his son, Jacob. Witmer apparently fell into the river and was swept away by the
current. His body was found in the river at Lewiston on Oct. 21, 1859. He was
53 years old.
Following his death, the mill was operated by Witmer Brothers until the failure
of the Witmer bank in 1884.”
