It doesn’t matter what you call
it, Striped Bass, Rockfish, Linesider, True Bass, or Striper, it’s probably the
most sought after near shore species on the East coast from the Carolinas north
to New England. Morone saxatilis, as its known in the scientific world, excites
anglers with a deep seeded passion. Sport fishermen consider this print a
trophy.
- - - Born in 1950, Jerry Ellis grew up
on the Lower Peninsula in Tidewater Virginia. As a youth he spent hours along
the banks of the James River exploring the tidal woodlands. Mr. Ellis’ work has
been published by the National Wild
Turkey Federation, Virginia Wildlife Magazine, North
Carolina Wildlife Magazine (cover); he
illustrated the book Wildlife Neighbors
of the Williamsburg Area (a regional nature guide), and the limited
printing of 29 copies of Beloved Waters
by Paul Ford, privately published by Meadow Run Press in 2000. He has also been
a contributor to Ducks Unlimited.
His work has been displayed in the gold room of the Easton Waterfowl Festival. Critics have called Ellis “A Major
Talent.” Jerry has fished and photographed nature across North America.
