Captain of the Company on Trainband in Colebrook in the 18th Regiment in this
Colony. New Haven. October 18, 1774. 7-3/6 x 12 inches. Wax seal. Printed
and manuscript. Also signed: “George
Wyllys” Secretary. Overall very good condition. Blank over-folded paper
7-1/4 x 12 inches.
- - - (V) Captain Joseph Rockwell, son of Joseph Rockwell
(4), was born at Windsor, Connecticut, March 15, 1715-6, died July 6, 1776,
aged sixty-one years. He was the second settler in Colebrook, Connecticut, in
1766. He was the captain of the first militia company there October 4, 1774,
commissioned by Governor Jonathan Trumbull. - - - The paper is somewhat brittle
with minor edge chips. The paper is pulpish, thus very few of these document
have survived.
- - - Jonathan Trumbull, whom (George) Washington
affectionately called “Brother Jonathan.” He served as Governor of Connecticut
