Vellum-like binding with ties, housed within the original grey cloth clam-shell case (13-7/8 inches) with paper reproduction of the title page to top and faux vellum title label to spine, the front board with gilt coat of arms for James I and title in gilt to spine. Laid in is a pamphlet (14 pages) to accompany the facsimile, containing an Historical Introduction by A.L. Rowse and Bibliographical Notes by Robert O. Dougan, Librarian of the Huntington Library and Art Gallery. - - -

Smith’s narrative is based on his eyewitness observations during his stay in the colony from 1606-1609, and his exploration of the New England coast 1610-1617. It includes substantially all of his previous works on America, together with abstracts of other writers. One of the most famous of the early histories relating to the new discoveries in America.
