This is one of my favorite guitars of the early 80s.  It's the Ibanez Roadstar Series II RS530, serial number J840527 and I have it in the all black finish, with matching headstock and the trick red piping around the guitar's body.  This particular one was made in October of 1984.  The 'J' in the serial number is the 10th letter of the alphabet, and denotes the month of manufacture, while the first two numbers (84) denote the year.  This was the 527th guitar of this specific 'RS' model (530) to be made that year.  Care to guess how many are left in this condition (excellent, relatively speaking) after over 26 years?  Probably not many.  For specific information on Ibanez Roadstar II guitar dating, see the Ibanez Collectors World (ICW) website at:

The guitar itself also sounds amazing, and its two (2) IBZ pickups (they resemble classic 'blackouts') drive this axe with power and precision.  To supplement the sound and tonal variety available, Ibanez outfitted the RS530 (it was only available in 1984 and 1985) with "push-push" coil tapping.  The company named the system 'Duo Sound,'and in addition to the two (2) volume knobs, the RS530 also featured a single tone knob and a 3-way selector switch.  Truly, it's a versatile instrument.  Specific features and specifications include:

-  Matched headstock (matched to the color of the neck and body)

-  Pro Rock'R bridge (pop in) with fine tuning adjusters, whammy bar and a locking nut
-  Black finish, including on neck

There's some small amount of fret wear, but you need to hold the neck up to the light and look at each fret wire at an angle to see the tiny scratches or cuts in the wire.  All fret edges are smooth, and the action on this guitar is super low, with intonation spot-on.  The guitar is ready to rock right out of the gate.  This being a 26-plus year old guitar, and it having been part of a regular gigging musician's rotation, off and on, over the years, it has its share of small nicks, dents and dings, but nothing major and nothing that would show up from more than a couple feet away (the all-black color helps with this, of course).  I've done my best to depict the small neck ding and the ones on the back of the headstock and elsewhere.  Buckle rash is typical for the contoured (with a tummy cut) backside of the guitar as well.

What's non-original on this guitar?  Very little, in fact.  I've had to install a non-standard fine tuner at the high 'E' (.009 or .010 gauge string) position on the Pro Rock'R bridge (that took a hike, for some reason, years ago and I can't really remember why ;-).  I've also installed a new whammy bar just last week. I threw the old one away (or gave it to a player who actually uses a whammy, because I don't) about 20 years ago.  The three (3) nuts on the locking nut are also new.  I lost one of the old ones several years back, but I'll include the other two (2) originals when this ships.  I've also just replaced one of the neck pickup trim ring screws on the lefthand side (as you look at the guitar).  It's the lower one. 

Lastly:  Look at the photograph of the body, and the IBZ bridge pickup, and you'll note that the pickup and trim ring have been relocated just slightly further back, about an 8th of an inch or less.  There are a total of three (3) small holes, as I'm sure you'll see.  Everything else is completely stock (well, I just replaced the strings and set the action and intonation about a month ago, but that doesn't count), including the wiring, the volume and tone knobs, the selector switch and tip, the bridge and locking nut assembly, the tuners, the engraved neckplate, the backside cover plates (there are two (2) of them), the bone nut, the strap pegs, the input jack and the potentiometers (none scratch at all).  There's also no cracking or splitting in the finish anywhere, and most especially around the neck pocket (no splits or cracking in the wood, too).

Ibanez built these guitars to really be "road stars," meaning they were constructed to withstand the rigors of night-in and night-out gigging and daily practice sessions, and they were equally at home in the garage or in the studio.  Check out the ICW website for the full story on this venerable Japanese guitar manufacturing company.
