Found this really slick little item at an estate sale. It appears to have been made about 1988 and never been (or at least, very seldom) used. All the components are in almost impeccable condition and look almost new. Everything that I tested works just fine. The diagnostics program (one of those in the Rom) allows testing everything, the backlit LCD, the floppy drive, the memory, the keyboard, the printer port, the serial port, etc. Even the battery still works! It charges up quite nicely and holds a charge for at least several days, maybe even longer (that's all I've had time for). Incredible!!
I played with it a couple of days, formatted some 3.5" diskettes (1.44k's as 720k's) and wrote a couple of GW-basic routines from the old days. Ah, the memories! It's been a blast, but now it's time to let someone else enjoy it. It's obvious it's been in storage for 20 years, just waiting to be let out!
It's a Panasonic Business Partner 150 computer. The model is a CF-150 B. It has 640k of ram with several system programs loaded into a bootable ROM chip. With the possible exception of a lack of a system diskette, it appears to be a complete setup that includes the computer, the AC adapter, the Panasonic carrying case and a booklet made specifically for this computer. The booklet has GW-Basic instructions in the front half and on the back half it has MS-Dos commands.
I didn't know Panasonic had ever sold a little jewel like this, must have been one of their very first steps into the laptop market. It has to be very rare, especially in this condition. I think it was made for them by Tandy, some of the software appears to have been written for the Tandy 1100FD and the booklet is copyrighted by Tandy. All that being said to advise that I think if a person had a Tandy 1100 system disk (or something similar), this could be a fun machine and a real conversation starter!!
The whole setup is in almost pristine condition (especially for it's age). The only damage I've spotted is a small scratch right down across the "N" and "I" of the brand name Panasonic on the cover of the computer. It's small enough, I couldn't get a decent picture, but I wanted to be sure it was known about.
The carrying case/bag is not torn nor worn, doesn't have any stretched seams and the Panasonic name on the cover flap is probably just like it was when new. The booklet is clean and doesn't have any notes, scribbles, folded over corners, etc.
This would be a terrific gift for the collector who thinks they have everything!
