It also makes areal tubercles, - It is a very rare and beautiful  food plant, -the outside of the tuber looks brown like the wild Dioscorea  alata, but the inside of the tuber is very purple .  This Yam is used to make Indian dishes as well as some other cultures, from  other  tropical countries native recipes. 1. Like all the other edible and  medicinal yams, they are related to the Air Potato (Dioscorea bulbifera) and thus have the potential to become  invasive in Florida and similarly mild climates, so each fall be sure to  harvest and eat/plant the aerial tubers. 2.
