About the middle of 2009 I was diagnosed with Chronic COPD. I was having trouble breathing and coughing up blood daily. I went to the Doctor, (Whom I will not Name since he recommended a non FDA approved treatment plan) who simply did all the tests and stated that I was going to be terminally very soon. The ONLY option was to stop smoking immediately! I really did want to quit smoking but after trying every stop smoking remedy by several doctors, I had given up on every stopping. I told the doctor and stated "Well then, this is it then. I will make plans to die."
This is where it gets interesting...
This doctor was a very honest and educated man. He told me that he wanted me to try something "Experimental". Of course I was all ears! He told me to do the research and find the best Electronic Cigarette I could find, buy it, use it, and if it did not work, he would gladly buy it back from me! I had no risk in trying so I went home and started surfing YouTube, Google, Yahoo, AMA Journals, everywhere on the web. At that time we did not have the myriad of MODS out there that we do now so I ended up buying a DSE801. It worked! I quit smoking immediately and used only the e cigarette! I was amazed at how well the E Cigarette took away the craving for Nicotine!
But I still Needed More!
So armed with an electronics background, and the fear of dying, I went to work to develop my very first Big Battery Mod, the Rubicon Rubi!
It solved the vapor production problem as well as the short battery life problem. The Rubi was never commercially available because as soon as I reviewed it on YouTube, it was immediately copied by a man who renamed it the "Detonator". I went on to develop at least 5 other Mods in an array of specifications and voltage options.
But why the name Rubicon?
The Rubicon river was known through history as a one way trip! The lore says that when the King found out that the prince wanted to go across the Rubicon River and create his own kingdom, the King stated that the prince would be banished forever never to return to his home land. Jealousy mostly I suppose. So since going back to cigarettes will never happen for me, I came up with the name, The Rubicon Project"
