Nyotai Sanbashi - The talented and
prolific cult director Teruo Ishii realized a whole series of very stylish black
thrillers, among them was this little film.
Director Teruo Ishi's unique documentary style crime action
follows the investigative adventures of an undercover cop working within a
prostitution ring. Prostitution is illegal in Japan, but the covert trafficking
of women and "call girls" is a flourishing business.
Yoshioka is an undercover cop investigating a call-girl ring
operating out of a Ginza nightclub called the Arizona. When he visits the club,
however, he is surprised to discover the boss’s moll is his long-lost
love.
Ishii filmed this twisty story of evasions and betrayals, set
in Japan’s sex industry, with an unblinking recognition of its sordidness,
together with a winking acknowledgement of its pleasures.
