Truck Yaro Bakusou Ichiban-boshi -
Sequel to the hit movie starring Bunta Sugawara and Kinya Aikawa as a pair of
good-natured truck drivers who go anywhere in Japan from their home base in
Tokyo.
Tojiro (Bunta Sugawara) is a free-wheeling bachelor who has no
plans on settling down. Kinjo an ex-cop is married with seven kids (!) and his
wife is pregnant with another one. Both drive flashy trucks outfitted with
multi-colored lights, horns, paintings, etc.
The film delivers equal amounts of laughter and tears which follows the adventures of two
long-distance truck drivers. Probably most surprising is that the mixture really
works and even the drama parts are strong, rarely hurt by the surrounding comedy
bits.
The successful series ran from 1975 to 1979, with two films
being released every year. Apart from the final film they were all Toei Top 10
box office hits in their release year.
