Hanjiro - Based on the true story of
Samurai Nakamura Hanjiro during the tumultuous Meiji-era in Japan, it depicts
Hanjiro’s rise from a low ranking Samurai to one of Saigo Takamori’s most
trusted men due to his generosity and excellent swordsmanship.
Through unrivaled swordsmanship and unwavering personality,
Hanjiro becomes a loyal servant of revolutionary Saigo Takamori. Hanjiro quickly
rises through the ranks in the newly formed Imperial Army as Saigo becomes a
charismatic general. When government officials frame his friend Saigo, Hanjiro
learns how corrupt the government really is.
Outraged by this and the loss of honor and morality among the
Samurai, Hanjiro chooses to stand with his friend and fight against the corrupt
Meiji-era government though their chance of victory is slim. Magnificent and
poignant, this tale forces viewers to question the meaning of loyalty and
honor.
Lead actor Enoki Takaaki, born in Kagoshima and trained in
