Description:

Shizuka na Seikatsu - Winner of 4 Japanese Academy Awards - Melodrama about the life of a mentally handicapped young man and his devoted sister. Based on the 1995 novel by Itami's brother in law and Nobel Prize-winning author Kenzaburo Oe.

This film adaptation centers on the exploits of Iiyo, a mentally challenged, but musically gifted teen, and Maa, the boy's artistic younger sister who is put in charge of caring for her sibling after their parents go to Australia. Loosely based on the real life experiences of Kenzaburo's Oe's handicapped son, the story confronts the unique issues and difficulties facing both the handicapped and those who must take care of them.

A story that shows the great love of family for each other, and how indebted we are for our personal growth from the members of our family.
