Yabu No Naka No Kuroneko - 11th century Japan, a mother and daughter-in-law are raped and murdered by pillaging samurai, but return from the dead as shape-shifting demons that favour the form of black cats intent on revenge.

Afterwards, a series of samurai returning from the war through that area are found mysteriously dead with their throats torn out. As the ghosts lure soldiers into the bamboo groves, a champion samurai is sent to stop their reign of terror, but he finds the monsters he's hired to destroy are his own wife and mother.

Powerful film portraying terror, violence and eroticism, loosely based on the Japanese folktale "The Cat's Return". Eccentric and more overtly supernatural than its breakthrough companion piece, "ONIBABA".
