Inspired by Akutagawa Ryunosuke's "In the Grove", the famed short story that Kurosawa's Rashomon is based on. Rather than an adaptation of the original story this version tells the backstory of rogue bandit Tajomaru, the role made famous by Mifune Toshiro.
Naomitsu, the second son of the noble Hatakeyama family, is willing to give up everything to be with his love, Princess Ako. Betrayed by his own brother who wants to take Ako as his wife, Naomitsu escapes to the mountains with Ako. During the journey Naomitsu is betrayed once more, this time by his trusted retainer Sakuramaru. Forced into a corner by the world, Naomitsu must fight back on his own terms, but when he returns, it will be as a different man ----- TAJOMARU.
