Ningyo-Tei Ibun Muhogai no Suronin (Strange Tale of Mermaid Inn: Lowly Ronin on Lawless Streets)
It’s the 1870’s in Yokohama, and as usual the story centers around a saloon called "The Mermaid" (Ningyotei), whose main attraction is a nightly show of scantily-clad women swimming in a huge glass bowl. Meanwhile two residents of the inn upstairs fight corruption and evil as Japan goes through major changes in order to deal with the world at large.
The past and present come together as a movement is afoot to try and take over Yokohama and turn it into a nation of its own. Following their defeat at Goryokaku on the Island of Hokkaido, survivors plot an attack on Yokohama that could devastate the population during a visit by British royalty.
Coupled with the appearance of 3 drifters from Mr. Chidori's past, the stage is set for some unusual and gripping stories. The series keeps improving as more of these events begin to take place in and around The Mermaid Saloon.
