Nippon no akuryo - Based on the novel by Kazumi Takahashi. At the core of Evil Spirits of Japan are the dynamics that allow the viewer to experience both sides of the law enforcement cavalcade.

Murase is a Yakuza bodyguard, Ochiai is a long serving disillusioned cop who once was a student activist. When they meet, they're surprised how identical they look, and although they have crafted careers on different sides of the tracks; they have much more in common than just their appearance.

Their likeness is so striking that Ochiai is accidently welcomed by the Kito Yakuza Family. So the two men decide to switch their positions. Both men clearly enjoy the honeymoon period with Murase playing the detective, wielding the power and status that it brings, and Ochiai feels rather comfortable in the world of Yakuza and the chance to rebel from the establishment; given his student activist roots.

But as the war of words between the Kito and Tenchi Yakuza families heightens over the struggle for land and wealth following the murder of a local official, events gather quickly as the duo’s likeness is placed under increasing strain before matters come to a head....
