This was a series of eight films that ran from 1968 through 1972 and propelled actress Fuji Junko into stardom with her portrayal of a female gambler and swordswoman who roams the land looking for revenge and redemption for her family.
The Red Peony Gambler films take place during the 1890's or Mid-Meiji Era. Hibotan Tobaku: Oryu Sanjo - Oryu returns to Nagoya to search for Okimi, the young blind girl she left behind in Part Three, only to find her working as a pick-pocket thief in Tokyo.
