Hitty Doll (and other) Carving Kit
Custom made from POLYURETHANE Square Stock
I have been asked by many carvers to create a "kit" that would allow them to make one single purchase and have enough material to cave the Hitty Doll or other items.
This "kit" contains the following items:
ONE 1 1/2 X 5 5/8" long SQUARE BLOCK
TWO 1/2 X 5 5/8" long SQUARE BLOCKS
While this material does cut easily, I would suggest rough shaping be done with a Dremel to save time. Always wear a proper dust mask when sanding or power shaping ANY medium. We offer squares from 2 inches down to 1/2 inch AND Cylinders from 2 inches down to 1/2 inch..
PLEASE NOTE:
The dolls shown in this listing are for reference only and are not part of the listing. The dolls were carved by master artists Jenny Anderson and Connie Hardt and represent the first and second ever creations using my Polyurethane.
Assembly of component parts is best accomplished with either Hobby grade CA Glue or Epoxy. It has a tensile strength of 3200 PSI and a hardness index of 70D. Simply put, it will not break or shatter on impact. This Polyurethane
is easily turned on a lathe. It can be drilled, tapped and threaded. It is
useful for any repair that needs to appear as if it is ivory. It has been
used in making a black powder measures, in jewelry making, scrimshaw, custom
inlay, pen blanks, reel seats, custom knobs, duck calls, and many, many more
unique products. This material works easily
and will polish very nicely with 3M automotive finishers polish.
If you are making multiple purchases, please don't pay until we
send a combined invoice. We calculate shipping by the combined weight and the
invoice will not be correct if you do not wait for the corrected invoice.
This is a custom made item and there is no standing
inventory. It will be created to your specifications after your
purchase. Each item is poured to order. The AVERAGE
ship time is 10 business days from receipt of payment.
Any photo in ANY of my
listings represents the prototype of the ORIGINAL. Because this is a custom
made item, eBay policy allows you to have choices in color.
The default color is Natural which is
a cream or off white color very similar to ivory. The Natural color
will ship unless I am notified.
Aged Ivory is also available.
Aged is more yellow as true aged ivory becomes over time. If you are
requesting Aged Ivory please send me an eBay message.
Depending on your monitor or my photo
service, the item you receive may look slightly different in color from the
listing photo.
TIPS & TRICKS
(ONE) I have a way to age this material further that you can do at home. You are in control and it is fun to try various "looks" to the age of the Poly. The good news is that it doesn't damage the item and is completely removable if the results aren't to your liking. All it takes is some paper towels and a small amount of Ochre, yellow/brown or Golden color acrylic water based paint, available at any Wall Mart store in the crafts section. After final sanding and before any wax etc is applied to the grip, place a drop or two of the color on a folded paper towel. Gently rub the color over the face of the item. (The longer the paint sits on the surface the darker it will be in the final stages, a little is best, you can always add more). Buff away the excess with another folded towel. Want some streaks??? OK, just add a tiny drop of brown to a small amount of your base color. Apply the mix to a Q-Tip and streak away. When you are happy with the look, "Burnish" (rub the surface quickly and with some pressure) with another folded paper towel. Sit back and admire your creation. Not good enough?? OK, sand it off with some 3M 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper, used wet, available in any DIY store and start again. Once you are satisfied with the coloration, and have painted all the details of your creation, a thick coat or two of a good quality paste wax will protect the finish. The wax can be applied with another folded paper towel and the last coat "burnished" for a very nice gloss.
(TWO) This Poly responds well to being glued using many different forms of adhesive. Some methods I have used are: Hobby grade CA Glue, Gorilla glue, Quick Set Epoxy and Contact cement.
(THREE) The Poly will respond well to any water based acrylic paint if you would like to create a different ethnic look for your doll. The paint will penetrate the pores of the Poly and form a very durable finish.
