A real genius just left me a NEUTRAL feedback because the
whale tooth he bought had imperfections. The lead photo is exactly what the
tooth looks like!!! All my faux ivory teeth are cloned from real whale teeth
harvested by sailors on ship hundreds of years ago. They come complete with saw
marks, chips, cracks, gouges, missing chunks, just the way they were pulled
from the whale. If you don't want them, sand them out.
This listing is for a Custom Made Faux Ivory Whales Tooth WITH a 4.5 x 3.5 Faux Ivory "edged" mounting base.
This is NOT a REAL tooth. It is made of POLYURETHANE.
The original tooth was harvested long before the ban on whaling and no living whale was harmed in the cloning of this tooth.
The dimensions of the tooth are 5 x 2.25 x 1.25. It is not hollow, it is solid polyurethane.
One side of the original was sanded smooth and the other was left Natural. The copy is the same.
The photos shown are of the original tooth and the prototype copy. I wanted to show a side by side comparison so you could get a feel of the detailing of the copy. (The individual that was kind enough to loan me the original tooth told me neither he or any of his family members could not tell the difference between the real tooth and the copy from a distance of three feet). Neither is for sale and are not a part of this listing.
The tooth you are bidding on does NOT exist at the time of the listing. In keeping with eBay policy of allowing CUSTOM MADE items to offer a choice of color, the tooth will be created after purchase and receipt of payment in your choice of either a Natural Ivory or an Aged Ivory color. The color shown in this listing is Aged. There is a photo of the Base in Natural and Aged for comparison. The base will be tinted to match the tooth.
Please email me with your choice or I will assume you are happy with the default color of Aged and process the order as such.
When I create the tooth AND the mounting base, I will use a mold release consisting of Baby Powder. This will allow you to Tint the tooth and base to your own taste.
This Poly will engrave and Scrimshaw very nicely. Just sand it smooth, seal the pores with a good quality wax and use sharp tools.
