This is a piece of art being that it is individually handmade.  Since each UDU is handmade from ceramic, no two UDU's are alike. 

This small drum, measuring 5" in diameter, performs brilliantly and is designed to accommodate young children and grown-ups alike. It  has a top and side hole.

To play the UDU simply place the palm of your hand on the side hole while opening and closing the top hole in varying degrees with your other hand, and visa versa. You can also strike any part of the drum with your fingers,slap it or slide rhythms on it.

CHIMELU - a name in the Igbo language which means - What God has created - and is given to female babies at birth.

The Chimelu-udu brings kids face to face with an authentic African percussion and offers them the opportunity to explore hand drumming on a true drum head while palm playing the high and the low tones on the side of the drum.

Chimelu-udu can be used as a stand alone drum or used as an accompaniment. It can also be externally or internally miked for performances.
