In my effort to explore and paint the American West, sometimes my seeking sends me far west to the Hawaiian Islands.  Each island has its own personality.  My latest trip was to the Garden Island of Kaua'i. The island is peaceful and you often spend time doing nothing at all but laying in a hammock and watching the sea.  This is a view of Kalalau Valley in the afternoon.  You can only get to this point by following the road to Waimea Canyon to the very end. But it's worth the drive.  Ahead of you spreads this surreal valley that takes you back a thousand years to when the natives first landed on this island.  And the volcanic Napali Cliffs harken back 6 million years to when Kaua'i first rose from the pacific ocean.  Aloha!
