By 1987, the Chicago Cubs remained the only baseball team to not have lights in their stadium. The Cubs originally planned to install lights during World War II but instead donated the much needed steel material to war efforts. Prior to the start of the season the Cubs acquired outfielder Andre Dawson from the Montreal Expos. Dawson led the league in RBI's during the first season as he won the National League MVP award for the last place Cubs.
