Antique Wood Splint Utility/Market Basket Ca.1800's Natural Color in Nice Oak
Measures-24" x 14" x 14"handle high----7 3/4" deep
This is a very nice old handmade Ca.1800's splint utility/market basket.Obtained from an Estate Sale in Cooperstown NY,as told the basket came from a family with a history in the state of Maine.
Overall the basket is in very, very good condition, and when the basket was constructed the bottom was reinforced with two runners to strengthen it so it could carry a rather heavy load. There is some minute breakage to one of the runners corner and alittle minor splitting to the same runner and wrap.
It is beautiful,it is big,it has all the natural patina for its splended age,and the weaving is out of this world, which makes it sturdy and very useable. There are a few minute splits to the weaving but does not burden the overall construction or use.
It has a oak handle, base runners, edge supports for this nice oak splint basket. This is the first basket as such that I have come across, that has peeked my inner most feelings as to its beauty and age!!!!!
Thank you so very much for looking!
