Up for auction we have an early
Antique Flat Iron No. 8
This really heavy one is a rare cast iron collectible find!
Looks like it's been sitting under water for at least a decade.
Somebody must have thrown this heavy housekeeping ball & chain out the window...unless of course it went down with the ship.
Fully intact, it does show some signs of erosion, possibly salt water damage
Lots of typography marking the iron, but it's hard to read since it's been worn down and mottled with surface decay, although the large number 8 is ledgible
Measurements are: 6 1/2 inches long x 4 1/8 inches wide x 4 1/4 inches high
Weight: 6 pounds 4 ounces
This would make a great door stop or paper weight...or better yet, an exceptional addition to your already established antique flat iron collection.
Has plenty of authentic patina.
Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
