Hello and thank you for looking at my lovely plate
This is a "New Lackawanna" Train Station Memorobilia Plate from Scranton, PA
It is the Waiting Room scene; reminescent of one many of us know well
They must have at one time sold these from there as souvineers.
My guess is that it depicts the station that one of the Erie Lackawanna Trains stopped at in Scranton, Pennsylvania in the USA.
I rode the Erie Lackawanna train in my youth from the New Jersey countryside right into New York City for night school several afternoons a week after high school got out. The Erie Lackawanna train was an authentic, creeky, old, well-kept train that had the nice wicker seats and the cranky old train conductor. I don't think we ever had souvenir plates for sale at our remote station, but the image on the center of this plate is reminescent of the glorious old places along the way where we boarded, departed, or waited for the train.
This plate measures 7 very lovely inches in dimeter.
It has no chips or flea bites, but there is the beginning of some spider-crack crazing to the glaze on the underside of the plate which I was not able to capture too well with my camera. Nevertheless, the imagery is dreamy and wonderful, although it looks like the right hand side of the station image is a bit worn off through the center. It shows beautifully rendered roses and clusters of four-leaf-clovers (for good fortune in travel I'd imagine) on it's rim, and has some more decorative gold leaf floral flourishes in between each. Overall, the plate is charming.
This is a nice thing. And we all know, joy is not in things, it is in us. Yet the things we seem to credit to our joy are indeed worthy of some acknowledgement...especially when they remind us of days gone by and past experiences in travel that made for an interesting time in life.
It's nice to be reminded of a nostalgic part of our past, or of life in general...even if it's just by the image on a little decorative plate.
Thanks again for looking at my lovely plate. Good luck bidding. I hope if you love it, you bid and you win!
