Q.When should I replace my trailer tires?
A.Over the years, it has become clear that tires can" age out" as well as they wear out. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA, and tire manufacturers are currently studying the many variables on how long will tires last before aging out. Environmental conditions like exposure to sunlight and coastal climates, as well as poor storage and infrequent use, accelerate the aging process, but the issue of how to confirm and quantify the aging still remains.
The U.S. divisions of DaimlerChrysler and Ford Motor Company advise their customers that the tires should be replaced as Original Equipment after 6 years of service.
Q.Should I replace my spare tire It's never been used?
A.It recommends that all tires including the spare tire ones that were made more than ten years ago be replaced with new tires.
