This is a great piece from the Depression era that is made of chalkware or some sort of plaster composite.  It is the bust of a Chinese woman.  It is copyrighted and signed in the back by the artist, Esther Hunt.  It is beautifully hand painted and there are some spots of missing paint and/or surface chips.  Most of it is missing paint rather than chips and can easily be touched up but is to be expected on a piece of this age.  There is a ton of detail on her clothes and she has a beautiful face.  On the bottom in pencil it says Jonquil and has the numbers 240 or some sort of symbol.  This comes from my Grandmother's estate and was a wedding gift to her in the 1920's.  These sell for over $1,000 at auction in California so this is a real bargain.  Shipping includes double boxed and insurance.  It measures 6" long and is 6 1/2" tall.

Esther HUNT  1875 – 1951 Esther Anna Hunt was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on August 30, 1875. She moved to San Diego in 1881 and she grew up on a ranch there. From 1896-1900 she worked as an artist in Los Angeles. Upon moving to San Francisco, she studied art at the Mark Hopkins Institute (1901). As a means to finance her art studies, she began painting Chinatown subjects which she sent to a New York dealer who readily sold them. After studying portraiture with William M. Chase in New York City from 1905-06, she continued her studies for six years in Paris. While in Paris her portrait of her sister was hung in the Paris Salon. Returning to California, she had a studio in Los Angeles for four years and from 1918-27 she lived in San Francisco; during 1927-31 she lived in Greenwich Village in New York City. The years 1932-46 were again spent in San Francisco. Her oils, watercolors, etchings, and colored ceramic figurines were very popular with the general public during her productive years, having been reproduced commercially for postcards, calendars, prints, busts, etc. Hunt was very fond of the artistically-created and individually-named "children" she would never have in real life. After a stroke ended her career, she was taken to the Santa Ana (CA) Rest Home. A spinster, she died there on March 4, 1951.

Due to Ebay's new feedback system I offer the following conditions on any subsequent sale.  I have been participating on Ebay since the beginning.  I expect to get what I purchase and I deliver to a Buyer what they paid for.  Buyer expectations need to be realistic.  Most Seller's have real jobs and don't live on their computers.  It is unrealistic to expect immediate gratification when purchasing an item.  I have always been a fast shipper in comparison to my experiences when buying on Ebay and yet my marks are lower because Buyers don't understand that Ebay now charges Seller's more for fees for anything other than #5 ratings.  I sell a lot of vintage items at a large discount.  I check them over with a magnifying glass and describe any material defects I see.  It is possible that I miss something now and then and I will accept a return on those items when it is something other than a matter of opinion.  Buyer must provide me with documentation of that misrepresentation as I have provided pictures in the listing.  My experience is that some people will say anything trying to get an item for free.  I don't always clean the items because I don't want to de-value them.  I leave that to the Buyer.  I know you want a deal and so do I.  But please don't waste my time or yours in offering ridiculous amounts of money for items of value.  I pack the items so that they will arrive at your door in the same condition that they left mine.  I spend $500+ a year on packing material.  If you don't want to reimburse me $2.00 in packing material then please don't bid on my items and then complain later in feedback or ratings.  If your item doesn't require packing material I won't charge you the fee but don't expect to buy something breakable and then have me pay more to ship to you after you bought at bargain prices.  Paypal is a great invention but occassionally it doesn't work properly.  If your item doesn't show as shipped within a few days please contact the Seller.  The shipping calculator is a great thing but sometimes it doesn't work properly.  If you buy and check out on your own, without me sending you an invoice, then it may happen that I have to contact you for different shipping information or costs as the calculator has been off on large items recently.  You may have been able to purchase an item from someone living near you for lower postage but keep in mind that I am on the West coast and shipping will be more to the Midwest and East Coast then it is to someone who lives nearer to me.  This is especially true of larger, heavier items.  I will ship parcel post or even UPS or Fed Ex if that rate is better.  I will mutually cancel a transaction if the calculator is materially off and we both agree.  But please don't make an agreement to change from priority shipping to parcel post and then ding me in feedback and ratings because shipping took too long and you received a refund from me.  That's unfair.  And when the entire system becomes so slanted in one direction or another it will fail.  Please contact me with any concerns you have.  I am very reasonable and fair.  But I have never complied with blackmail or unreasonable demands.  I keep my agreements and I expect you to keep yours.  Please ask questions BEFORE you bid.  Since it is no longer your choice for insurance I will provide insurance on items that I have a concern might break in transit and will say so in the listing.  If you are interested in an item and you think it should have insurance please tell me ahead of time if I have not offered it and you can purchase it in the shipping price.  I have had the privilege of trading with a great variety of people all over the world for over 10 years and I look forward to continued fun and new experiences.  I do Ebay for relaxation and fun and will continue to do so as long as it remains relaxing and fun.  Thank you for your continued support and bids.
