This also came from the estate of a World War II Veteran. This is an old wicker basket marked made in occupied Japan. This Veteran was detached to Japan after the war as an occupying troop. This basket is in excellent shape with the exception of missing one of the locks. The basket has built in bamboo rings on the front. From one hangs a hand woven figure eight to which a piece of string is tied. The end is a piece of bamboo shaped like a knife blade. It hangs from the upper ring and falls to the lower ring where the bamboo piece fits through the loop to hold the top down securely. With the one lock intact surely another one can be made to match it and restore this basket to it's original condition. The two handles are woven and attached to the top. The hinges are in good shape and the rest of the basket is in remarkable condition considering it's almost 70 years old. It measures 10" x 13" and is 7 1/2" deep.
