We believe these were created circa 1993 by Carlyle Fine Collections, Ltd, in England to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the British Pharmaceutical Society.
This set is superb and unlike any other we’ve seen—they present beautifully and make a stunning display. Cylindrically shaped and made of tinted glass, the jars have 22-carat gold detail. Each jar has a different, wonderfully-detailed medical seal and a Latin or Greek motto (see below). In near-perfect condition, with no readily-apparent chips, cracks, or imperfections, they measure 13” high with 6.25” diameter bases.
Each jar bears the coat of arms and Latin or Greek motto of a different apothecary society or college:
• Peruv. Bark: “Non Est Vivere Sed Valere Vita” (life is not being alive but being well)—Royal Society of Medicine• Arrowroot: “O Bioc Epaxyc AE Texnh Makph” (life is short, art is long)—Royal College of Physcians
• Sulpher: “Habenda Ratio Valetudinis” (we must pay attention to our health)—Royal Pharmaceutical Society
• Rhubarb: "Opiferque Per Orbem Dicor" (I Am Called a Bringer of Help Throughout the World)—Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London.
Shipping and Handling: We offer shipping and handling (economy, Continental U.S.) for a flat fee of $125.
