The Bank - Built in 1826, the Housatonic Bank is the third oldest structure on Main Street, a handsome brick building with sturdy stone pillars, now recreated in delicate blown-glass. As a customer of the bank, Norman Rockwell knew the place well, and the bank's president was a close personal friend. The bank also served as backdrop for one of Rockwell's last paintings, in which a young girl brings in her piggy bank to make a deposit. The Country Store - A. Williams & Sons store has been part of the Stockbridge scene for almost 200 years, and "The Country Store" blown-glass ornament recreates the charming "new" store building, which was builit in 1824. Norman Rockwell, whose studio was next door, is said to have been a regular customer, buying turpentine to thin his paints, nails to stretch his canvases - even a few props for his paintings.
