The Martha stein is part of the Opera Card Series of Martha (CS300), Hugenhots (CS331), and Segfreid (CS332). Martha oder Der Markt zu Richmond (Martha or The Richmond Market) is an opera in four acts by Friedrich von Flotow to a German libretto by Friedrich Wilhelm Riese, based on the ballet Lady Henriette by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges
This stein is HAND-PAINTED, and captures the artistry of the Old World Opera Houses, complete with sweeping burgundy velvet curtains accented with Gold fringe. The ornate pewter lid is a finely-sculpted and deeply etched domed opera house.
This stein is numbered of 1,655 of 5,000
In the late 1800's, Anheuser-Busch produced a number of opera "trade cards"(similar to todays sports cards) which were distributed by traveling salesman to promote the brewery's beers. Each stein in this historical series is highlighted by an authentic reproduction of one of those opera cards, obtained from the Anheuser Busch Archives. Each card featured an illustration of a scene from a famous opera and an excerpt from the performance-with Budweiser or another Anheuser Busch beer inserted cleverly into the words. The first stein shows a replica of a card featuring the opera "Martha." Parchment scrolls on each side of the stein display the name of the opera and an excerpt that appears on the card.
These steins are very unique since it is hand painted and a must own for any collector.
