For your consideration is this antique toy Buck Rogers spaceship.
Made by Tootsietoy circa 1930's, the 'Flash Blast Attack Ship'
measures 4 3/4" in length. The ship is in very good condition with no
cracks or chips to
the cast iron body. It has wear to paint with about
15% loss. It is red and white and has a channel at the top with wheels
inside in which a string is treaded for it to slide on as if flying.
Raised letters on sides reads 'Buck Rogers Flash Blast Attack Ship',
'TS 310 Z, 'Licensed JFD Co.', and 'Tootsietoy Made In USA'.
The history of this ship originated in two short stories
by Philip Francis Nowlan in 1928.
Anthony
Rogers was a fictional character later renamed Buck
Rogers and reinvented by
John Flint Dille as a comic strip, making its
first newspaper appearance on January 7, 1929.
Rogers also appeared in
a serial film and a TV series as well as other formats and became an
important part of American pop culture. This pop phenomenon paralleled
the development
of space technology in the 20th Century and introduced
Americans to outer space as a
familiar environment for swashbuckling
adventure.
