Original 19th century print from the octavo edition of Audubon's The Birds of America from Drawings Made in the United States and Their Territories.

This print was made by a process called planeography. The print was "pulled" from the original lithographic stone, then watercolored by hand. The complete series of The Birds of America included 500 lithographed plates of John James Audubon.
An "original print" is a work of art. The artist alone has created the master image in or upon the plate for the purpose of creating the print. The print is made by the artist (or pursuant to his directions) from the said material. The finished print is approved by the artist. Original hand-colored lithographs, pulled (printed) from lithographic stones, are not reproductions.
This original print was purchased in 1996 from Kaller Historical Documents, Inc.
Kaller is the industry leader in building museum quality collections of historical manuscripts, letters, art, rare books, and other historical artifacts.
The lithograph has been beautifully and professionally custom framed.
Litho will be shipped with the frame, unless otherwise requested.
Overall condition of this plate is VERY GOOD.
